Santa Monica’s First Open Streets Event, Coast, celebrates the opening of Expo Line Phase 2 this weekend.

Imagine. Heading from downtown LA to Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon, when everyone and their mother is similarly beach-bound. Sound like a nightmare? Thanks to Expo Line Phase 2, it can actually be a dream come true. With the opening of the line, you can get from DTLA to Santa Monica in about 46 minutes! That’s clearly cause for celebration, and the festivities kick off June 5th with Coast, Santa Monica’s first open streets event.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5th, 1.7 miles of street along Ocean Avenue, Main Street, and Colorado Avenue will be closed to cars so the community can come out. The vehicle-free streets invite us all to come out and find a new favorite local shop, try a bite to eat at a new spot, and get entertained by games, dance, and more along the way.

Over 2,000 people have already RSVP’d on Facebook, so this promises to be an energetic, engaging event. There will be yoga, Zumba, and dance at the Camera Obscura Art Lab, art throughout the route, Samba dancers in the streets, and other creative opportunities. Whether you want to walk, run, bike, or dance your way through, this is a can’t-miss event for the whole family.

Coast is presented by Metro in partnership with the City of Santa Monica. This event is produced by Community Arts Resources for the City of Santa Monica and is sure to become a local favorite!
