Protect yourself from dangerous rays this summer with these sun protection tips!

Summertime has arrived. From barbecues and pool parties to summer camp and beach days, we look forward to spending summer outside. However, when it comes to fun in the sun, it’s important to put safety first. The sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays and summer’s ever increasing temperatures can make outdoor activities dangerous to your health. Stay safe and check out our sun protection tips.

Sunscreen is Your Friend.

Apply lots of sunscreen before you head outside. It’s a key component in keeping your skin protected. Damaging UV rays can cause sunburns, premature aging, and skin cancer. Look for a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 and “broad spectrum” coverage, and remember to apply it every couple hours or so.

Minimize the Time You Spend Outdoors at Peak Hours.

We love spending a day out and about, but it’s best to stay inside between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. when the sun’s intensity is at its strongest. That way you can minimize your risk of getting sunburnt.

Wear Protective Sun Gear.

A hat and sunglasses are a great way to accessorize, but they’re also effective ways to protect yourself from the sun. A hat can help to keep the sun off of your face, and the wider the brim, the better the coverage. Also, sunglasses help to protect your eyes from the sun. UV rays can cause damage that can be harmful to your optic health later on in life.
